Best and Worst of Met Gala 2019

As if celebrities need a reason to dress up in the fanciest outfits and hit the red carpet. Every May, comes the Super Bowl of fashion, The Met Gala.

Here, we see fashion like never before. Everyone dressed to impress and looking like a million bucks.

Don’t be fooled, there are some stunners as well, but not of the good kind.

As Met Galas always happens on the first Monday of May every year, this year, it fell on the 6th.

The Pink Carpet, as opposed to Red Carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, was flooded with who’s who of fashion. Flashing their best interpretation of “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” which was the theme for the evening.

There are stars that nailed the theme to its core while some completely neglected it. They either didn’t understand the theme or they don’t care enough to put in the effort.

Be that as it may, we have the list of some of the best and worst dressed celebrities from the Met Gala 2019 Pink Carpet.

Kacey Musgraves in Moschino.

Singer Kacey Musgraves nailed the Camp theme showing up as a real-life Barbie designed by Jeremy Scott for Moschino. From her hair-dryer purse, blonde hair, sunglasses, makeup to the expression on her face, the all-pink out, and of course the pink convertible.

Kim Kardashian in Custom Thierry Mugler.

Best and Worst of Met Gala 2019

Designer Thierry Mugler came out of his retirement after 20 years just so he could dress Kim Kardashian for the 2019 Met Gala. The designer pictured the reality TV star as a “California girl stepping out of the ocean”.

She later revealed the process of getting into her dress that is made out of silicon, which looks rather excruciating. But hey, anything for fashion, right?

Lupita Nyong’o in Versace.

Best and Worst of Met Gala 2019

If anyone nails Met Gala year after year, it’s Lupita Nyong’o. This year too, she did it dazzled in custom Versace gown. She paid homage to one of the oldest and most infamous style icons of camp, the French queen Marie Antoinette.

Nicki Minaj in Atelier Prabal Gurung.

Rapper Nicki Minaj shunned the pink carpet wearing a custom-made Atelier Prabal Gurung.

Though many people pointed that she didn’t understand the theme of the Gala, but Prabal Gurung shut the haters down sharing the inspiration of her look.

The designer drew the inspiration of the rapper’s couture dress reimagining the court of King Louis XIV and what would it be in modern times.

Zendaya in Custom Tommy Hilfiger.

Best and Worst of Met Gala 2019

Actress Zendaya took Camp to the next level, showing up as the real-life Cinderella.

She showed up in the pink carpet in what seemed like a plain and simple gown accompanied by her stylist Law Roach.

But once she hit the carpet, her stylist played the role of the fairy godmother. And with his wand, he transferred Zendaya’s dress into a light-up Cinderella gown.

She even lost a glass slipper as she walked up to the stairs of the Gala.

Janelle Monáe in Christian Siriano.

When Janelle Monáe attends a red carpet, you should know she commits really hard, especially the Met Gala.

And this year too she did not disappoint.

The singer showed up in a custom Christian Siriano dress which was a feast for the eye. And so was the eye covering her breast that actually blinked.

Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell.

Best and Worst of Met Gala 2019

If anyone can commit to the Met Gala theme it’s Lady Gaga. Year after year, she turns the head of everyone attending and watching.

Gaga was one of the hosts of the Gala and everyone’s expectations were really high. Needless to say, she did not disappoint.

She first showed up wearing an enormous fuchsia dress surrounded by an entourage of men in suits carrying umbrellas.

As she started stripping in front of the paparazzi, she changed into a black gown.

Furthermore, as she took off her black gown, she had a third gown hidden underneath, a pink one.

She surprised everyone as she took off her third gown ending up in just her undergarments, stocking and boots. Talking about an entrance.

Billy Porter in The Blonds.

While everyone was shunned with Lady Gaga and the entrance she pulled, they thought no one can top that. Enter Billy Porter.

Inspired by Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra, the Egyptian Sun God, and Cher, Porter showed up in a golden jumpsuit with wings.

But that’s not it, he entered the event being carried by six half-naked men while looking like a real queen.

Jared Leto in Gucci.

While most men didn’t quite understand the theme and showed up in boring old suits, Jared Leto made sure everyone knew he knows camp.

The Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman showed up in a custom Gucci red suit covered in some serious bling.

However, what took it to the next level is him showing up with a replica of his own head.

Vogue’s editor-at-large Hamish Bowles was probably the campiest celebrity at the 2019 Met Gala.

He showed up in the pink carpet, as flashy as he could be. He was in a purple suit and a cape with the design of artist Katherine Bernhardt’s Pink panther+scotch tape+green plantains painting.

Ryan Murphy in Christian Siriano.

But the funniest thing the comedian did was she brought fried chicken so she wouldn’t leave hungry.

Liu Wen

Her yellow flannel is-it-a-suit-is-it-a-skirt-dress with tassels was really a look.

The ex-wife of media mogul Rupert Murdoch Wendi Deng tried to make a statement at the 2019 Met Gala.

But maybe she took it a little too far.

She wore a multi-colored ruffle dress with feathers including a feather headpiece. Although she tried, the look wasn’t quite right for her.
